How to Measure Your Ring Size

How to Measure Your Ring Size

When ordering rings, it is essential to know your finger size as accurately as possible.
Choosing the correct size ensures that your ring fits properly and feels comfortable to wear.

The easiest and most reliable way to determine your correct ring size is to have your finger measured professionally at a nearby jewelry store. However, if that option is not available, there are a few simple methods you can use at home to measure your ring size.

Measuring with an Existing Ring

Take a ring that fits your finger perfectly.
Place it on a flat surface and use a ruler or measuring tape to measure the inner diameter (the inside edge across the center of the ring).

Read the measurement in millimeters.

If the inside diameter measures 17 mm, then your ring size is 17.
If the inside diameter measures 18.5 mm, then you should choose ring size 18.5.

Measuring Without an Existing Ring

If you do not already have a properly fitting ring, follow these simple steps:

  1. Take a soft measuring tape.

  2. Wrap it around the finger you want to measure.

  3. Mark the point where the tape overlaps.

  4. Make sure the tape is not too tight or too loose.

If your finger measures 60 mm in circumference, you should choose your ring size accordingly.

Most jewelry stores have their own size charts, so it is important to check the specific sizing guide of the store you are purchasing from.

Personally, I have experienced inconsistencies with this method. For example, if my finger measures 60 mm, one store may list 59.6 mm as size 19, while another may place it closer to size 20. However, I know that I actually wear size 18 on that finger.

Consider Changes in Finger Size

Keep in mind that finger size can change depending on temperature and time of day:

  • In warm weather, fingers may swell slightly, resulting in a larger measurement.

  • In the evening, fingers also tend to be slightly more swollen.

  • In cold weather, fingers are usually slimmer.

My recommendation is to measure your finger at least three times at different times of the day to determine the most accurate size.

Always follow the store’s sizing chart carefully and double-check your measurements — either by measuring your finger directly or by measuring an existing ring that fits you well.
